Lone Star College (LSC) and the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) encourages higher education training for area businesses.
Small companies with fewer than 100 workers can receive a TWC Skills for Small Business grant to enroll their employees into free college courses at LSC-Kingwood. The funds will pay up to $1,800 for each new employee to be trained and $900 for existing employees per 12-month period. The courses must relate to the business’s industry and help the employees in their current jobs.

“This grant will provide support to Texas’ small businesses and help them grow,” said Pat Chandler, continuing education director at LSC-Kingwood.

To be eligible for the grant, prospective students must enroll in training courses offered at a public community or technical college or the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. LSC-Kingwood provides an array of classes that aid interested participants in their chosen career field and job. They can register today for credit and continuing education courses (either online or classroom-based) for the spring semester that starts on Jan. 19.

Additionally, all funding is for full-time employees only and businesses must pay the prevailing wages in the local labor market for the trainees funded under the grant.
