The Paul Harris Fellow program recognizes individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. The honor was established in 1957 to show appreciation for contributions that support their annual fund, PolioPlus, or an approved foundation grant.

 

STATE SALES TAX REVENUE TOTALED $2.76 BILLION IN MAY

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar recently announced that state sales tax revenue totaled $2.76 billion in May, 10.2 percent more than in May 2017. “Strong growth in sales tax revenue was apparent across all major economic sectors,” Hegar said. “While the most rapid growth was in remittances from the construction and oil- and gas-related sectors, significant gains also came from information services, restaurants and retail trade.” Hegar also said state franchise tax revenue for May was $3.23 billion, 1.4 percent more than in May 2017. Year-to-date franchise tax revenue is up 11.3 percent. Total sales tax revenue for the three months ending in May 2018 was up 10.4 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Sales tax revenue is the largest source of state funding for the state budget, accounting for 58 percent of all tax collections.

CHAMBER WELCOMES NEW DIRECTORS

The Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed two new staff members, Zach Emerson and Stefani Kilgore. Emerson, 23, now serves as the investor sales and services director. He will be primarily focused on strengthening the relationships the chamber has with its community business partners and will be working to form new connections with area businesses. Emerson recently received his bachelor of arts in history, with a minor in psychology from the University of Houston. He grew up in the Lake Houston Area and graduated from Kingwood High School in 2013. Kilgore, 27, now serves as investment engagement director. She will primarily focus on engaging new members and businesses with their interests as well as managing major chamber events. Kilgore brings many years of events experience to the table as she previously served as senior events coordinator at The Overlook.
