On the short list of fun things to do, doctor visits are rarely on it. Mann Eye patients, however, sing a different tune. They describe eye exams as “fun” and surgeries as “enjoyable.” These patient accolades can be accredited to Mann Eye Institute’s unwavering commitment to personalized patient care. The doctors and staff are forever receiving rave reviews and are described by patients as “remarkable, very knowledgeable people with a unique combination of professionalism and compassion.”
Patients feel confident and comfortable when in Mann Eye’s care. Thousands of patients from acrossthe country have trusted their vision to this dedicated team of board certified ophthalmologists and eye surgeons.
It all began more than 30 years ago in Humble when founder Dr. Mike Mann opened the first Mann Eye Center. For over three decades now, Mann Eye has been at the forefront of vision correction, and is now officially known as Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center. Not only are they still going strong in Humble, there are several other Houston area locations (Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Spring and downtown) as well as Livingston, Cleveland and two Austin locations. "Even now that Mann Eye has 10 locations, Humble is especially near and dear to us because it's where we started," said Dr. Mike Mann.
Mann has been performing cataract surgery since the mid-1970s and began performing refractive surgery in 1981. He has since performed thousands of cataract and refractive surgeries on patients from around the world, and he is especially proud of his efforts to provide missionary eye care to indigenous peoples in South America and the Caribbean through Benevolent Missions International.
Leading laser companies have honored Mann as one of the top 100 refractive surgeons in the U. S. Additionally, Mann is involved in FDA clinical studies and has taught numerous cataract and refractive surgery courses to hundreds of other ophthalmologists.
Mann's son, Paul, shares his father’s passion for restoring sight, and joined the team in 2004. He has performed tens of thousands LASIK procedures since, and now leads a team of three additional surgeons and 16 optometrists.
The Institute offers Blade-Free LASIK vision correction, which utilizes state-of-the-art, highly sophisticated laser technology for the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. LASIK actually stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis, and is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery, deemed as effective in most cases, safe, and with very few side effects. Mann Eye uses the WaveLight System, one of the most advanced, FDA-approved laser systems in the nation. It is a great option for many individuals considering laser vision correction because it is a highly successful procedure with proven benefits that have allowed active and social people to more freely pursue their hobbies, sports activities and/or career options.
In addition, Mann Eye Institute is the first in the country to offer the OptiMedica Catalys Precision Laser System, a leading-edge device that utilizes computer-guided technology rather than traditional surgical steps done manually with a blade.
“As surgeons, we are trained on several different laser technology platforms and our procedures are second to none,” states Dr. Jennifer Melton, one of the Houston-based Mann Eye surgeons.
"We strive to provide the latest technologies while maintaining a friendly 'small town' experience for each and every one of our patients in Humble," said Mann.
Mann Eye Institute offers a variety of other procedures aimed at cataract correction, including a variety of implantable lens options (Active Life Lenses). For those suffering from astigmatism in addition to cataracts, the AcrySofToricIOL procedure may be the ideal solution. Furthermore, Mann Eye offers the Corneal Inlay Procedure to treat age-related presbyopia (reading vision loss), LipiFlow to alleviate dry eye syndrome, and comprehensive eye care that includes ocular allergy testing, the treatment of eye infections, glaucoma and corneal/retinal diseases, annual exams, contact lens fittings and a full-service optical shop. Cosmetic services such as BOTOX, Latisse lash treatment, and REVALESKIN skin treatments are also offered at some locations.
In November 2014, Mann expanded their repertoire by creating their sister company, Mann Eye2, that specializes in offering affordable, high-quality, convenient eye exams and express glasses service. Mann Eye2 now has 10 Houston-area locations, including one in Humble.
Mann Eye’s expertise and outstanding results have led to a reputation for excellence in eye care. They believe that outstanding surgical results depend on distinctive patient care.
Jennifer Melton, MD, said, “We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all eye care. We have a rigorous vetting process, and we are very meticulous in our pre-surgical screenings to ensure that the patient fits the procedure, and vice versa.”
“Our patients in Humble are special and we truly appreciate the opportunity to have served them for over 30 years,” said Mann. Learn more about Mann Eye Institute at manneye.com or Mann Eye2 at manneye2.com or call 1-800-MY-VISION (1-800-698-4746).
