Area businessmen have their golf tournaments and the businesswomen have their diva nights. The Humble Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors ladies’ nights out complete with shopping, food, entertainment and a chance to hang out with the girls. The theme for this year’s event was a day at the races. Derby Divas filled the Humble Civic Center on Oct. 8, ready to shop till they dropped, dance the night away, or simply sip Jockey Juleps or Louisville Loopy Lemonade. Donations made at the free-drink Bit and Bridle Bar sponsored by Beckwith’s Car Care were donated to the Women Helping Women Endowment. Things got hot as Houston Firefighters “Men-on-Fire” calender models collected donations for firefighters, posed for photos and signed calendars. Women also passed the night with a variety of games including Table Top Trivia, Pin the Tail on the Race Horse and the Hilarious Hat contest. Prizes were awarded in a variety of categories. A Derby Day Stick Pony Race delighted spectators and featured jockies Dan Huberty, Robert Sitton, Dr. Kyle Buchan, Dr. Coty McComb, Michael Byers and Leon Brashier. Throughout the night, Johnnie Ray Scroggins served as emcee and entertained the crowd. RE/MAX Associates Northeast provided a money machine booth, where guests could see how much cool cash they could catch, and Thomas Markle Jewelers offered 50 “Jewelry Grab Bags” available with a $20 donation to the chamber. Grab bags gave shoppers a chance to win valuable jewelry. A variety of pamper stations were available and divas could have their photos taken with friends.
