The telecommunications industry has become so complex, it is hard for most business owners to communicate with their telecommunications providers, much less know if they are getting the best deal. That is where John Hoeksema comes in. He is a Kingwood resident and telecommunications consultant, saving some businesses as much as $20,000 per year. Hoeksema is regional manager for Fox Bluff Corporation and is someone who knows about MPLS, POTS, modems, routers, DSL, LAN, WAN, local, intra lata, slamming, cramming and digital communications. “The best thing about this company is if we don’t find ways to save money, the client owes nothing,” he said.  Hoeksema said more than 90 percent of the company’s client audits result in some savings. He said the average client stands to save between 18 and 25 percent of what they are currently paying for voice, data and cellular service. The savings are shared between Fox Bluff and the client. Hoeksema has lived in the Kingwood area for 38 years and retired from the furniture business. He said he is excited to be a part of this new group, which now has a national presence. Del Houghton, owner, founded the business in 2004 in Illinois, and he watched the idea catch on. He built Fox Bluff after retiring from ATT with 31 years of experience in telecommunications. “This new business is a continuation of what I had been doing for years,” said Houghton. “I always wanted to have my own business, and when I retired, the time was right.” He said he has territories set up in the North, South, East and West, and is currently creating a presence in the Central region. Houghton said he hires people with inside knowledge about telecommunications, which is key to saving clients money. He said years of experience in the business helps them know where to look for savings and how to negotiate with phone companies. Today, Houghton has more than 20 specialists with more than 400 years of combined telecommunications experience. Together they manage more than $20 million of “telecom expenses” at any given time.   Since they do not sell telephone or cellular products or services, Houghton said they are able to remain unbiased as they go after any historical savings, locate over-charging and billing errors. His specialists typically audit and optimize telecommunications for 24 months, providing quarterly reports to their clients, who can have minimal involvement, but still be called on to make all “go” and “no-go” decisions. Among Fox Bluff’s services are: telecommunications project management, digital networking, disaster recovery, service procurement, cell phone management and telecommunications billing management. “I’m excited about what we offer. It involves results without risk, since the client only pays after expenses have been reduced,” said Hoeksema. For more information, call 281-360-2960.
