Oakhurst at Kingwood is Growing
- Written by B.R. Kimbro
The neighborhood known as Oakhurst at Kingwood was first developed in 1994 and known as Bentwood, but the development never gained momentum. In 2002, Friendswood Development Company bought the community which consisted of only 40 homes. One reason the community never fully developed was a lack of available amenities. This is no longer the case. Over the past seven years, the neighborhood has been transformed into a thriving community with more than 1,000 occupied homes. According to the Friendswood Development Company, new home sales are up more than 25 percent, and home shoppers can select from a wide variety of designs. Oakhurst offers a wide selection of one-and two-story single family homes, ranging in price from the $150,000s to the $800,000s, including low-maintenance patio homes available on the Oakhurst Golf Course. Oakhurst at Kingwood is known for its accessible location and proximity to U.S. Highway 59. Oakhurst residents enjoy scenic surroundings and such amenities as greenbelt trails, the Oakhurst Golf Course, and a recreation center with a pool, park and clubhouse. Oakhurst is located in East Montgomery County, therefore children in the area can attend acclaimed schools including the new Bens Branch Elementary and White Oak Middle schools. The New Caney ISD has been recognized for its continued student achievement and strong academic, parental and community support. For graduating seniors, a $1,000 scholarship is granted for any student that goes on to attend any accredited college or university.
