Business savy, volunteerism hallmarks of realtor Susan Brown was recently named 2008 Business Woman of the Year by the Women’s Council of Realtors, Lake Houston Chapter. This distinction allows her to be considered for Business Woman of the Year at the state level. An agent and member of Your Texas Connection Team at Keller Williams Realty - Kingwood, Brown has been a Realtor for 13 years specializing in residential, new construction and relocation. “Our WCR chapter is made up of dynamic people. I listen to them, learn from them and share with them. At the end of the day, I feel I am a better person because of those interactions. Relationships truly make the difference in business and in life. I am grateful to my peers for giving me this award. It means the world to me,” Brown said. The criteria for becoming WCR’s Business Woman of the Year are based on production, community involvement and service to the WCR. Brown served as president of the WCR Lake Houston Chapter in 2007; president-elect in 2006; treasurer for two years, 2004-05; and has been a member since 2002. She has been instrumental in helping the WCR organization raise money for local charities such as The Door and Including Kids, Inc. Brown said her production record comes from the local area, where Houston is one of the top 10 recession-proof cities in the nation – Texas and specifically Houston have the most affordable housing in the U.S. with interest rates low and home prices stable. Crediting Keller Williams Realty for being an education-based company, Brown said, “For me, Keller Williams and WCR go hand-in-hand.” Brown’s peers at Keller Williams return the compliment. “We are so proud to be in business with Susan. She sets the standards daily for others in our industry by maintaining a level of excellence that many strive for but few are able to achieve,”  said Lisa Dempsey, senior team leader at Keller Williams – Kingwood. “Susan’s positive spirit and giving attitude is demonstrated through her willingness to share her expertise with her peers. Her ongoing leadership within WCR is just one example of this. She also serves on the Keller Williams Realty Agent Leadership Council on the local and city level, adding value to Keller Williams’ agents throughout the City of Houston.” Brown has called Houston home since 2001, previously living in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. Her youth was filled with extracurricular activities and organizations centered on school, church and athletics. She attended Indiana University and Indiana Wesleyan University. Sales and marketing are areas of her expertise. She has been active in this career for the past 23 years. Her current hobbies include spending time with family, trying to improve her golf handicap and volunteering with various business groups, church and community organizations.
