Bill Shank is leading the team of Shank Wealth Management financial planners with families in mind. Shank said their team wants to help secure the financial future of all their clients by treating them like family. The Shank team recently added two new faces to their family of financial advisors. Brenda Jackson, who specializes in retirement planning, and investment manager Brett Tynes are on board to help round out the areas of expertise in the Shank family. The team consists of licensed financial advisors Bill Shank, president; Christian Shank, vice president; Charlie Garland, vice president; Brenda Jackson, vice president; Brett Tynes, vice president/investment manager; and Megan Gaskamp, customer service manager. Tammy Nigro, marketing director and Alice Hanovich, office manager, round out the team. After starting the Edward Jones Kingwood branch in 1994, Bill Shank banked on excellent client services to lend success to his business, and it did, by reaching top producer status within two years. He contributes that success to this motto: We bend over backwards to spoil our clients. Continuing in the tradition of “Families Helping Families,” the Shank Wealth Management firm was founded by Bill and Christian Shank, and joined LPL Financial in 2006 with the goal of developing unique financial strategies for each client’s individual needs. Bill Shank’s grandfather and two great-uncles founded the Beall’s Department Store chain, where he started working at age 14. Running a business is in his blood.“What I think we are trying to accomplish here is based on the old philosophy that the customer is always right,” Bill Shank said. “Service is not just an option; it’s how you run your business, and you have to be real good at what you do, experience wise. The part that makes us different is that we’re trying to do a highly technical, fast-paced, leading-edge business in an old-fashioned way.” Christian Shank, who has nine years’ experience as a financial advisor, explained that the Shank “family” team works with families and their financial needs whether they have $40,000 or a million dollars, all are treated equally and welcomed into the “family.” He compared the business of finance to being a doctor in today’s world of high tech. “Everyone thinks they’re a doctor because they’ve got the internet now. It’s the same thing. You couldn’t read everything on investing out there in a lifetime, and it changes month-to-month, year-to-year.” Under the umbrella of LPL Financial, Shank Wealth Management operates as a fully independent and conflict-free firm, which is able to provide unbiased financial advice while making the best choices for their clients. According to Bill Shank, the firm has a unique team structure, with advisors possessing individual financial specialties, allowing them to provide specialized advice for every dimension of financial planning, portfolio management and personalized client services. Tynes, the newest member of the “Shank Family of Investors,” is a credentialed accredited asset management specialist who has been professionally managing investments for 18 years. He left private investment practice to join Shank Wealth Management in March 2012. “I started my first business at 20 years of age,” Tynes said. “In 1986, after growing my first company and three others, I was exposed to the world of investing. The crash of 1987 taught me about some serious shortcomings in the investments being sold by the brokerages. After completing my education at A&M, and selling my companies in the early 1990s, we moved to Houston where I began a career in investment management. During my investment career, I set out to develop a system of managing our clients’ money to protect them in uncertain markets, so they could avoid the letdowns of so many investment products being sold by the brokerages today. The Shank family and I were fortunate to work together in the investment business early on. We quickly found out we all desired independence from the big Wall Street brokerages, and shared a common desire to help families invest without the pitfalls of most investment products sold today. The private family office environment of the Shank Wealth Management team fits perfectly with my desire to do what is right for our clients, their families and future generations.” Jackson’s expertise is in retirement planning. She has worn many hats in the business world, from teaching to Wall Street. “I love being a part of this team and I feel blessed. This has been the most challenging and the most rewarding job I’ve ever had,” said Jackson. “I feel like I’m home. I’ve built a wonderful career in the financial world and I’ve been a leader in many areas. And now joining the Shank Wealth Management team will be my final home where all the requirements for continued success for me, and for my clients, fit together well. I’m a financial consultant, focusing on retirement planning, business investment plans and individual wealth accumulation and preservation strategies. I have taught banking finance in Houston and have worked for companies such as Gerald Hines Interests, The Wall Street Journal, The Houston Business Journal and owned my own company.” Garland, a licensed financial advisor and insurance agent, whose background is steeped in Kingwood services, worked for his father-in-law, founder of Kingwood Cablevision, from 1978-2001. He also worked as an independent contractor for Genworth Financial from 2002-2010, and has a background in long-term care planning and a passion for helping people going down that path.
