Porché and Pierce honored at awards gala The 27th annual gala Women of Excellence was held Sept. 27. The celebration, which is a once-in-a-lifetime recognition of leadership, gave area business leaders an opportunity to draw together after Hurricane Ike and follow the (FHPW) theme of “teamwork” as they supported each other after the storm. The Hyatt Regency Hotel was readied to provide a break from hurricane recovery, as the businesswomen gathered to celebrate. The FHPW recognized 37 women from the greater Houston area who demonstrated leadership and were selected by their organizations to receive the 2008 Woman of Excellence Award. The 2008 award winners included local honorees Germaine Porché of Kingwood and Kaylen Lucretia Pierce of New Caney. Nancy Williams, the 2008 Gala director, said, “Behind every successful woman, you’ll find a team of support. Our Awards Gala theme this year was ‘Celebrating Successful Women and the Power of Teamwork’ and we did just that on Sept. 27, as we honored 37 women chosen by our member organizations as Women of Excellence. We also introduced 18 women who received scholarships this year from our Educational Foundation to further their academic pursuits, including some who attend the Lone Star College System. “Our honorees have each woven together their talents, training and experiences, along with support from those that stand beside them, to make a unique tapestry of significant contributions to the Greater Houston area and beyond. They’ve seized opportunities, overcome obstacles, stepped out boldly and achieved their own unique measure of success, making their mark on our businesses, our communities, and our hearts,” said Williams “I am excited that two local business women’s groups, Humble Artesian Chapter and Women of Vision Express Network, both part of the American Association of Business Women, have selected Germaine Porché and Kaylen Pierce as their 2008 honorees.” Porché is president of Eagles View Consulting in Kingwood and was the honoree from the Humble Artesian Chapter of ABWA. “The evening was special and beautiful. It was an honor to be chosen as the Woman of Excellence representing the ABWA Humble Artesian Chapter,” said Porché. Kaylen Pierce was the honoree from the Women of Vision Express Network known as W.O.V.E.N. of the ABWA. Her business is www.HealthyCoffeeRocks.biz, an online enterprise. “It was such an honor to be chosen by my ABWA W.O.V.E.N. ‘family’ for the honor of Woman of Excellence. Any member of this remarkable group of women would qualify for this amazing award, and I’m humbled and grateful to represent them this year. As former president, I can say with confidence that this is one of the most remarkable groups of women in the Houston area. Each one looks for opportunities to serve fellow-business women and their communities. They do business with integrity and are fun! I also want to thank Nancy Williams who did an amazing job putting the Women of Excellence Gala together at the Hyatt Regency downtown. We were treated like royalty. Nancy is truly a phenomenal leader,” said Pierce. The Gala is the major scholarship fundraising event for the Federation and its Educational Foundation through the reception and silent auction held prior to the Women of Excellence awards ceremony. The auction items were donated by the member organizations and area businesses. The FHPW was founded in 1981 and is the fifth largest professional organization in Houston. FHPW is comprised of an alliance of more than 50 Houston area professional women’s organizations that represent approximately 5,000 professional women in the greater Houston area. The Federation is chartered by the state of Texas as a nonprofit, nonpartisan business league. Each FHPW member organization is diverse in style and structure but all share common goals including education, career development, networking and community service.
