Mega health club coming to community

There will soon be a new fitness center in the area, unlike any that have come before. Last month, Life Time Fitness purchased 16.6 acres of land on the southwest corner of West Lake Houston Parkway at Will Clayton Parkway. The massive fitness center will include pools and water parks, both indoors and out. “For them to pick Atascocita, what a testament that is to our growth in this area,” said Mark Wimberly of the Betz Commercial Brokerage Company. Wimberly said that despite negative news reports, business is booming in this area, adding that last year was his company's best ever. Betz is also responsible for brokering the development of The Colonnade and Orleans Square, near the same location, and numerous other local developments. Life Time Fitness Inc. is a publicly traded national company, operating 71 centers in 15 states. They are based in Minnesota. Centers already in the Houston area include one in Sugar Land, Cinco Ranch, Willowbrook, and another to open in Houston City Centre this summer. The Atascocita center will include hundreds of cardiovascular and weight machines, sport courts (including tennis, racquetball and squash), numerous classes, athletic leagues (including martial arts and dance), rock climbing, swim school, a café, a child center, and a full-service spa. Wimberly said that Lifetime representatives wanted the center to be among the homes and near Atascocita High School. “They will be very involved with the community,” said Wimberly. Members will use a card to access the facility, so no one can “just walk in off the street,” Wimberly explained. He said that Life Time anticipates 3,000 visitors to the facility each day. “You just have to go see the one in Sugar Land,” he added.
