The Humble City Council has approved spending nearly $3,000 to repair the roof of the Bender Performing Arts Center. At the last meeting, the council approved a change order to Bey Construction in the amount of $2,699.29 for a repair / replacement of the rusting steel joists that support the roof along the perimeter walls, basically the super structure of the roof according to city Manager Jason Steube.

Humble City Mayor Merle Aaron kicked off the meeting by reminding attendees of the policy for public comment at council meetings. Each person wishing to speak is limited to three minutes and must be registered ahead of time with City Secretary Jenny Page.

Council member Paula Settle made a motion to approve a professional services agreement with the Harris County Elections Administrator for the joint general election to be held May 1. This item was granted approval by all members.

The final order of scheduled business consisted of approval of the master agreement and amendment for treasury management services with Wells Fargo. Stuebe stated, “This is for two more additional years with no change in pricing or terms.”

Council member David Pierce gave community announcements.

“On April 9 and 10, we have “Tenderly, The Rosemary Clooney Musical” at the Bender. Then, later in the month, we have Sarah Grace of Ruf Records and Season 15 semifinalist on “The Voice” along with The Ally Venable Band on April 24 at 7 p.m.

Pierce added, “As you all know, this year we plan to hold the Good Oil Days Family Festival April 10. Last year, plans for the event were halted due to COVID-19 but this year it will be a special event. This festival will feature a petting zoo, a great list of vendors and sponsors, a raffle contest, live entertainment, a plant sale, and of course, a street dance.

“On April 17, KSBJ and NGEN Radio will present Casting Crowns in “A Night Under the Stars” at the Humble Civic Center.,” he said.

Pierce announced that early voting would be held April 19-27 at the Humble Civic Center. He assured all attendees that the race would be tight for all candidates. This location will also include a drive-thru voting option. “Good luck to all candidates,” he said.
