In the last 12 months, the Houston Food Bank has faced record demand and distributed more food than any other year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization's need for volunteers was at an all-time high due also to the pandemic, combined with the recent effects of Winter Storm Uri.

On March 18, Houston Airports team members rose to the occasion by inspecting, sorting and repackaging donated food items for community distribution. The team packaged over 100 boxes of food items that were delivered to elementary schools in the Houston area. 

Volunteer support is critical to the Houston Food Bank’s mission of leading the fight against hunger.  

“It was a great opportunity to not only give back but to bond with other employees who we may not work with daily,” Houston Airports Chief Community Relations Officer Rhonda Arnold said. “Employees left with a greater understanding of what the Houston Food Bank does to fight hunger in our community and the impact volunteering has on these efforts. Even with the challenges of the ongoing pandemic and the restrictions put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19, Houston Airports day of service was a success.”
