Kingwood’s River Grove, East End parks declared unsafe

The Kingwood Service Association (KSA) Parks Committee reviewed the hurricane damage to its park facilities at its meeting Sept. 7. Damage is massive at East End Park and River Grove Park and the committee declared them both to be dangerously unsafe and closed until further notice.

Flood damage from Hurricane Harvey will keep Kingwood High School closed for the 2017-2018 school year, but after a lot of thought and community input, the district released a plan for KHS to share Summer Creek High School’s facility.

Water employees hold down the fort
As the rain from Hurricane Harvey started on Saturday, and most area residents were glancing outside and thinking about a run to the grocery store, a group of 30 people were gathered at Kingwood's water station, operated by Severn Trent Environmental, planning.
They knew the water system for Kingwood is a top priority, and they hunkered down for the storm.
Today, six days later, they are finally going home for the night.
They have not been home during the interval, sleeping at the Kingwood water plants.
