A 43-year-old man who shot and killed a teen-aged girl who he claimed was breaking into his home has been charged with her murder.

Anthony Valle was arrested by Harris County Sheriff’s deputies and charged with murder in the shooting death of 14-year- old Layla Ann Ramos. The shooting happened at about 5:20 a.m. on July 20 at a home in the 19900 block of River Brook Dr. in Atascocita. Harris County deputy constables responding to the call found Ramos dead from two shotgun blasts. Homicide investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation and took Valle’s statement, in which he claimed he thought someone was breaking into his home.

But according to a press release from the Harris County Sheriff’s office, investigators noticed inconsistencies in his statement and began investigating the relationship between Valle and Ramos.

nvestigators allege that Valle and Ramos were involved in an inappropriate relationship including drug use and possible sexual misconduct, and that Ramos had allegedly threatened to report the sexual misconduct to authorities. Investigators interviewed Valle again about his relationship with Ramos and uncovered more inconsistencies in his story.

Charges were filed by the Harris County District Attorney, charging Valle with murder. He is being held in the Harris County Jail with a bond set at $200,000.
