A warm welcome to our newest Humble Independent School board trustee, Colin Carney! Colin, a certified public accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, has been appointed to the seat vacated by Heath Rushing and will be serving until the term ends in May 2019. He is a father of two, Addison and Blake, and married to former Riverwood Middle School teacher Jennifer Carney.
Heavy rains didn’t stop the party at The Tribune offices where staff, family and friends toured the new and remodeled space and celebrated Cynthia Calvert’s birthday. The lady herself looked amazing in a black lace dress as she toured groups of people through the new spaces. I honestly don’t know where she found the time, but crafty Miss Cynthia even appliqued the beautiful wall finishes herself. Larry Shiflet and Wilson Calvert took up co-hosting duties while Kate Ebbs did an amazing job setting up the party, laying out a delicious, lemon curd birthday cake, wedges upon wedges of delicious cheeses, and the most adorable handmade cookies sent by Cynthia’s daughter Olivia which were in the shape of newspapers, school buses and birthday cupcakes. All around the rooms, chatting and munching away were Charles Cunningham, Gina Remmes, Tim Baker, Liz Fagen, LynAnn Centofani, Pam McNair, Kim Brusatori, Danny Sullivan, Mark Linabury, Jennifer Wooden, Gwendolyn Condoleo-Crawford, Tom Broad, Millie Garrison, Norman Funderburk, Gayle and Donald Sampley, Devon and Chad Alexander, Jason Steube, Colette Marshall and dozens of others. Congratulations, Cynthia!
I will be glued to my television to catch the Robinett family of Humble on Family Feud for an encore episode! Houston Fire Department fire marshal Sedrick Robinett, Nevro Sales Director Ronnie Robinett, pediatrician Amber Robinett, student Brittany Robinett and teacher Brandy Robinett will be battling it out with another family and I wish them luck in bringing home the big money this second time around!
It was a packed house to celebrate a Kingwood favorite, Tony and Leslie Raffa's Amedeo's. Amedeo's has been serving our area for 32 years! To celebrate the milestone an '80s theme party was in order. 1980s-themed tunes were played by DJ Kdub. The staff participated in the '80s theme and was dressed up in adorable costumes. Fantastic food was served. Smiling faces in the crowd included Danny and Geralyn Sullivan, Danell Fields, Carol-Leigh Harvey, Diane Blanco, Carol Covey, Christine Zenker, Greg and Emmy Lee, David and Kathy Neil, Howard Pitman and Anne Viault, Tim and Carol Hunt, Jill Curran, Shari Llewelyn, David and Linda Prator, Pete and Martha Serna, Rod and Eunice Dennis, Gary and Theo Christman, Chad and Devon Alexander, Eileen Booher and Chris Parker. Congratulations to Tony and Leslie!

By the time you read this, Robin Ardoin will have been blissfully married for more than two weeks. Robin is the ace speech pathologist at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, but she's also a noted quilter. In fact, every year, she creates a beautiful quilt that she donates for auction at the hospital's annual In the Pink of Health lunch (the third Friday of every October). She's now known as Mrs. Thomas McCloud. A few weeks ago, several of Robin's hospital and quilter friends staked out multiple tables at Pappasito's Cantina in Humble to celebrate Robin's Aug. 5 nuptials. We can't share what happened but we can tell you who was spotted at the party: Liz Tise, Suzanne Brown, Audrey Winders, Becky Galey, Leslie Moore, Stephanie Sumpter, Cristi Cardenas, Jessica Labrada and Angela Atkins. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
More August birthdays of dear friends – I owe you all something cold, delicious and drinkable! Happy, happy birthday to Gwendolyn Condoleo-Crawford, Twila Carter, Millie Garrison, Hector Martinez, Judy Cox and Devon Alexander!
Since you’re here …
… we’ve got a small favor to ask. More people are reading The Tribune than ever. Advertising revenues across the media spectrum are falling fast. And unlike many news organizations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. The Tribune's independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too. If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps to support it, our future would be much more secure. Support the only locally owned, locally produced news product in the Lake Houston area. And thank you!
