Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community! The ballroom at the Houston Airport Marriott was beautiful, and packed with beautiful/handsome people celebrating the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Chairman’s Ball. In the traditional “changing of the guard,” 2008 Board Chairwoman Gay Nord, CEO of Kingwood Medical Center, handed the gavel to incoming chairman, attorney Jason Medley. The highlight of the evening was Carl Joiner’s introduction of the 2008 Haden E. McKay Citizen of the Year to a very deserving Philippe Cras. Philippe’s beautiful family, wife Mieke and daughters Nathalie, Evelyne and Pauline, were there to share the honor with him. It was a “who’s who” of the community, including: Congressman Ted Poe; Judge Tom Lawrence and wife Mickey; Mike and Barbara Byers; Humble Mayor Donnie McMannes and wife Georgia; Humble Police Chief Gary Warman; Larry and Cynthia Calvert Shiflet; Michael and Kim Sullivan; Bob and Janice Roy; Stan Nord; Kenny and Nancy Shortsleeve; Jim and Sally Wall; Becky Harmon; Bryan Lee; Megan Marietta; Tricia Ryan; Nick Racine; Marilyn Gerry; Memorial Hermann Northeast CEO Louis Smith and wife June; John and Gloria Tobin; Larry and Lynn Whitehair; Tom Broad; Emily Medley; Becky Medley; Colene Joiner; Joe and Tracy Stunja; Andy and Katherine Persson; Bill and Mary Shank; Debbie Marvin and Jay Carter. Brand new Red Door Realty bought an entire table for the event with glam glam glam owners Christi Harvey and Jill Henderson dazzling the room with their success. Brains and beauty is a formidable combination! This week’s featured event: Willow Creek Elementary PTA’s fifth annual gala will be Saturday, March 7, at Kingwood Country Club, from 6 – 11 p.m.. This year’s fundraising event includes a golf scramble that morning on the Forest Course. The gala theme is “Sandtraps and Sea Shells,” a Tommy Bahama style of event that features the tropical sounds of Steel Vibrations band. The auction is amazing and includes an Astros package with dinner at Vic and Anthony’s, jewelry donated by Thomas Markle and Delton Hayes, Jonas Brothers concert tickets and much more. The menu is tropical as well, with shrimp, sea scallops and even a roasted pig. There will be a putting contest on the green outside the dining room, to complement the evening of fun and dancing, while raising funds for supplies, library, media, technology and professional growth at Willow Creek. Tickets are $65 per person. Contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or go online, www.wcegolfandgala.com. Faces in the crowd: Cherrie’s mom Zennie and her son Carlos; Wayne and Millie Garrison; Devon Alexander; Tony Austin; Geralyn Sullivan; Jess and Danell Fields; Christopher and Jill Curran; Richard and Nancy Foisner, and CJ’s beautiful mom, Judy. There was so much yummy food left over that CJ invited a crowd for lunch the next day, among them: Sparky Nolan; Mark Linabury; Dwayne Ulrich; Gwendolyn Condoleo Crawford; Judy Luquette; Larry Lane; Richard and Len Leofsky. Cherrie and Sparky arrived from Raul Valles’ home where they were cleaning debris and covering holes (in preparation for rain) after an SUV plowed into Raul’s home the evening before. Sweethearts Allen and Terry Rogers celebrated their Valentine anniversary with several friends, including Mike and Sue Schmidt, Sarah Rossi, and Tre and Julie Valdez, at the home of Phil and Karen Boughton. An unusual aspect of the celebration was a very heated pizza cook-off! Clearly, the guests were the winners as they enjoyed seafood pizza with lobster, calamari and scallops, along with bistro chicken pizza, and artichoke, Kalamata olive and smoked mozzarella cheese pizza.
