A man from Humble is facing murder charges for the stabbing death of a man found on Atascocita Road 41 years ago, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

David Lee Edds, 61, allegedly stabbed and beat to death Rene Anthony Guillotte in the 3000 block of Atascocita Road on May 11, 1976. Investigators had found Edds’ driver’s license at the scene of the crime but he was not charged with the crime.

A review of physical evidence collected from the victim during the autopsy, however, found Edds’ DNA on the victim’s body, according to court documents.

HCSO cold case unit Sgt. Bobby Minchew reported that Guillotte was last seen leaving a bar on May 11, 1976. His naked body was found near Lyndsay Lyons Park early that morning.

Edds, who was convicted of manslaughter in 1981 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, was arrested by U.S. Marshals while hiding in Wayne County, Miss. He is being held in the Harris County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Before you go …

… we’ve got a small favor to ask. More people are reading The Tribune than ever. Advertising revenues across the media  spectrum are falling fast. And unlike many news organizations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. The Tribune's independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too. If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps to support it, our future would be much more secure. Support the only locally owned, locally produced news product in the Lake Houston area.  And thank you!
