Registration for the seventh annual Lake Houston 10K and 5K presented by Memorial Hermann Northeast and Texas Emergency Care Center is underway. The Lake Houston Area Chamber is hosting the sanctioned race at 7 a.m., Saturday, August 20 at Kings Harbor on Lake Houston.

Last year's event proved successful with more than 900 runners from across the state and country, some from as far away as Chicago. This year, the Chamber is preparing for more than 1,000 participants.

The course begins and ends at King's Harbor in Kingwood, is mostly shaded and boasts picturesque views of Lake Houston and the Kingwood area.

“The Lake Houston 10K 5K is a premier health and wellness event for the Lake Houston Area,” said Heath Rushing, CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast and 2016 Co-Race Director. “ We will work together to make sure the race continues to grow, attract runners from across the country and draw more local residents, who have been tremendous supporters for the race. We look forward to setting a new record this year.”

“This event has grown in recent years and we are excited to continue that trend this year,” said Corey Turner, publisher and ad director of the Observer Newspaper Group and Co-Race Director.

“In addition to being a fun walk and run, the 10K 5K highlights what is special about living in the Lake Houston area. We have families, businesses, nonprofits and volunteers coming together for a special day of fun and education about healthy living. We thank our sponsors and volunteers and we are always looking for more help if others are interested."
