I'm Abby Whitmire, and I'm running for Humble ISD Board of Trustees, Position 4. I am thankful to be a product of Texas public schools - first as a student in New Braunfels ISD for K-12, and then as a proud Longhorn at The University of Texas at Austin, where I earned my B.A. in Government in 2006.

I was blessed with amazing teachers who were committed and creative, and who cared so deeply about me and my classmates. I

believe all children in Texas deserve a great, well-resourced school with respected and empowered teachers, regardless of where they live or how much money their family makes.

I'm currently a stay at home mom, but my career background is in non-profit fundraising. Most recently, I worked in New Orleans for The Posse Foundation, one of the most comprehensive and renowned college access and youth leadership development programs in the United States.

Living in New Orleans opened my eyes to the strengths and weaknesses of the modern school reform movement and the realities of charter schools, vouchers, and school choice.

My family moved to Kingwood in 2014 for the schools. We want our son, William (age 3), to have the best possible start in life and to be engaged in the joy of learning. I'm so excited to send him to Bear Branch Elementary for Kindergarten - but I'm sure I will be an emotional wreck when that day comes!

When I'm not chasing after William, I enjoy volunteering with the Junior League, losing myself in a good book, and listening to podcasts.

ENDORSEMENTS:

Texas Democrats Launch Endorsements for Local Candidates

The Texas Democratic Party endorsed progressive candidates enrolled in the Project LIFT (Local Investment in the Future of Texas) program for the May 6th elections.
Project LIFT works with local party leaders and progressive partners to recruit, train, and support candidates – with a special focus on winning local, non-partisan races.

Meet the Texas Democratic Party’s Project LIFT endorsed candidates:

CHRIS HERRON, Humble ISD Board of Trustees Position 3
• Chris is standing up for the belief that public funds should be used for public schools. He has the business acumen and community organization experience to help the district’s kids succeed.

ABBY WHITMIRE, Humble ISD Board of Trustees Position 4
• Abby is proud to be a product of Texas public schools, from kindergarten through college. A mom who moved to Kingwood in 2014 for the schools,Abby’s work as a nonprofit fundraiser in New Orleans reinforced her commitment to public schools having seen the weaknesses of charter schools and vouchers.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement: “From Texas City to Amarillo, our Texas Democratic Party Project LIFT candidates are taking up the fight on behalf of their families, friends, and neighbors. Patriots are rising up to fight for and deliver progressive solutions so that everyone can have a fair shot to get ahead.
“Last November, Texas Democrats shocked the country, narrowing the presidential gap to single digits for the first time in twenty years. Since the election, millions of Texans have marched, spoken out, and stepped up. Trump Republicans are already wreaking havoc in Washington D.C. and Austin. Now, we have to build on our success, and that starts with winning locally this May.
“We’re proud of these great Democrats running for seats on city councils and school boards today, and there’s more to come.”
