Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital has once again been designated a Texas Ten Step Hospital by the Texas Department of State Health Services for promoting breastfeeding and meeting the Texas Ten Step criteria.

The Texas Ten Step Program encourages breastfeeding as the preferred method of feeding for newborns and infants. The program  is based on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) “Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.”   Memorial Hermann Northeast was recognized supporting breastfeeding mothers before, during and after delivery. As well, the hospital was commended  for identifying breastfeeding resources for new moms after they are discharged and for working to increase to 82 percent the number of new mothers breastfeeding their infants.

To earn the Texas Ten Step designation, Memorial Hermann Northeast had to: Successfully addressed 85 percent or more of the WHO’s 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding”  Meet the criteria for being designated a Texas Mother-Friendly worksite Evaluate the hospital’s breastfeeding policies and maternity care practices Educate the staff routinely about the advantages of breastfeeding
