On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Humble ISD was honored with a visit by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. She had earlier visited schools in Port Aransas and then came to the Lake Houston area to observe firsthand the ongoing rebuilding and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
After visiting Summer Creek High School, DeVos had a brief tour of the ongoing reconstruction of Kingwood High School and assisted by painting one of the walls in the foyer. She noted that she was “struck by the resiliency of the students and the creativity used to meet their needs. The best of America has come to light; we've found a bright side to a very bad experience.” She pledged that the federal government will continue to work with the State of Texas to meet the needs of every individual student. Later in the day she had a closed-door meeting with area principals to discuss the ongoing recovery.
