– Panther Pride Spirit Booster Club strives to make Timberwood Middle School better than ever – Timberwood Middle School boasts a new addition this year: the Panther Pride Spirit Booster Club. The parent-driven organization is dedicated to improving the school environment for all students as well as the faculty. Their motto reflects their dedication to helping the students of Timberwood: Pride, Perception, and Possibilities. “We are a fund raising organization that really just wants to be able to help the whole school. We didn’t want to only help the sports clubs,” Sheri Petersen, president of the organization, said. The Panther Pride Spirit Booster Club was created and designed to help foster a more hospitable and inviting environment for the students of Timberwood. According to Petersen, creating this environment is often difficult because, by nature, middle school students often fall into a “holding pattern;” they’ve left elementary behind, but are not in high school, either. “We want the kids to enjoy being in middle school.” Petersen said. “If we can help, that’s what we want to do.” This year, the club has already helped transform the Timberwood environment with several highly visible contributions. In conjunction with the Student Council, the club contributed funds for a “Knowledge is Power” mural which graces the school campus. The club has also purchased and provided college banners to decorate “College Square,” an area on campus that displays these banners in order to increase college awareness for the students. “The Timberwood principal, Chris Fox, has a passion for making sure all students, regardless of their economic status, know that college is an option,” Petersen said. The club also recognizes the need to provide support for the foundation of the academic experience: the teachers. The club provides treats throughout the month to the faculty at Timberwood, including popcorn and sodas on Fridays as well as mid-month cakes to celebrate birthdays. So far, the treats have been met with appreciation. “We know that happy teachers mean happy students,” Petersen said. The club funds all of its programs through rigorous fundraising. The sale of “Panther Paws,” personalized decals painted on the grounds of the Timberwood campus, has been an important fundraiser this year. Parents purchase the paws for their students to memorialize their years at Timberwood. The strength and spirit of the booster club is its ability to slip into a variety of roles in order to meet the needs of the students. Whether it’s providing much needed man-power for the recent choir/drama talent show or selling foam Panther Paws at all of the football games, the booster club is committed to helping the students, staff, and faculty at Timberwood Middle School.
