District operations for the 2017-2018 school year are in full swing. YOU can get a behind the scenes look within Humble ISD schools and administration, examining district processes and operations with the Community Leadership Academy (CLA).
“It was an eye opening experience to see all of the moving parts that are required in order to educate our children in a safe, yet friendly, environment,” said Travis Munro, Investment Advisor Representative at Centera Financial and graduate of the CLA program.
Participants will tour district facilities and receive in-depth knowledge of the inner-workings of Humble ISD. “This program provided me with a wide range of experiences that offered a glimpse at the daily activities of the Humble ISD,” said Munro, who learned about creating district budgets and the self-sustaining child nutrition program.
Sessions will focus on areas of operations from the cafeteria to the classroom, from fine arts to finances. Additionally, participants will learn about school board member role and responsibilities, preparing students for success after high school graduation, state assessments and curriculum, technology in the classroom and student safety.
“I feel as if I was given the golden keys of the school district. I really felt the open door policy of the board. I have been a Humble resident for the past 10 years and I didn't know all the wonderful projects and programs that the district is doing for our community,” said Mariana Peña, graduate of the program.
Anyone interested in participating must submit an application by Monday, October, 9th. Approximately 25 applicants will be selected to participate in second Community Leadership Academy class. Jerri Monbaron, Director of Community Development says, “We would love to include everyone who applies, but we have designed this program for participants to have a real hands-on learning experience, including interacting with students in the classroom. That type of experience is best with a smaller group.”
“I would highly recommend this program. It is a one-of-a-kind experience to gain a better understanding of the inner workings of a large school district. If you are accepted, make the commitment and take advantage of the opportunity. You will be glad that you did,” concluded Munro.
