For over 20 years, Heartbeat Bears, a group from Hi Neighbor Club-Kingwood, has been helping people through what has been described as one of the most difficult of life’s challenges, the loss of a baby. The goal is to help grieving parents experiencing the loss of a child – at any stage of development – at Memorial Hermann Northeast and Kingwood Medical Center. The program emphasizes the sacredness of life, whether the child dies after weeks in the womb or days after birth. Instead of leaving the hospital with empty arms, the perinatal loss team members give grieving parents small white teddy bears dressed in beautiful white dresses, provided by the Kingwood Heartbeat Bears. The grieving parents are also offered a small, white Bible if they choose to have one.
