SAN LUIS SALUTE, SAN LUIS COSTUME CONTEST AND KNIGHTS OF MOMUS BALL AND GRAND NIGHT PARADE HIGHLIGHT MARDI GRAS! GALVESTON 2009

Mardi Gras! Galveston 2009 will feature the largest parade, the most elaborate galas, and a zany, festive costume contest.

Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009

Continuing the tradition of Mardi Gras court presentations dating back to 1871, the Knights of Momus, Galveston’s oldest Mardi Gras Krewe, will present its royal court, King Frivolous XCIV and his queen at the Knights of Momus Coronation Ball on Saturday, Feb. 14 at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston with a reception following at The San Luis.

7 p.m. - The San Luis Salutes “The Italian Riviera” during Mardi Gras! Galveston 2009

An exciting evening filled with nonstop entertainment including music and dancing with The Flamingos will make the thirteenth annual San Luis Salute one to remember. A special appearance by the Philadelphia Mummers will punctuate this most spectacular of all Mardi Gras balls.

The San Luis and Mardi Gras! Galveston’s 25th Annual Mardi Gras Costume Contest

12 p.m. registration, 1 p.m. contest begins - Known for its zany entries, celebrity judges and rowdy spectators, the San Luis Costume Contest is a favorite among Mardi Gras goers of all ages.

6:45 p.m. - Momus Grand Night Parade “Momus Proclaims a Riviera Holiday” - Mardi Gras! Galveston’s largest parade features numerous illuminated floats, dozens of marching bands, showers of beads, trinkets and specially minted doubloons. The festivities begin on Seawall Boulevard and proceed grandly and gloriously to the Historic Strand.
